          1. It is 運動会 Sports Day! 7am and everyone is at the school setting up tents, stringing flags, drawing lines. Perfect day with no clouds and very little wind. It’s a big day for the town: EVERYBODY comes to this thing!

          Because of corona things are scaled down. It’s only half day, the main event (lunch) is cancelled, and no out of town guests.

        Usually undokai is done in the fall so it is a lot more windy and rainy. It was rescheduled so as not to clash with fire brigade competition, which is ANOTHER big deal here on the island. Those guys are local heroes!
