              1. Father-in-law took a little walk around some of the Gion floats on display in downtown Kyoto and sent me some pics. The festival has been going on since 869 and has grown into quite the spectacle. Here is the famous Naginata-hoko.

              Here is a bit of a walk around it so you can see some of the treasures on display. You will see things like tapestries and art and even Persian carpets that came across the Silk Roads!

            A few more details from the Tsuki and Niwatori hokos. Many of the big ones on the main streets with lots of pedestrians have bridges.

      Floats come in all shapes and sizes. Its cool to walk around and go up inside of them.

    Houses in the old neighbourhoods will open their front shutters so you can take a look inside and see some family treasures. I always enjoyed this part of the festival.
