Good morning! We have just left Tsushima and are headed to Iki where we will be spending a few days reconnecting with old friends. Follow along as I will be sharing some Japanese remote island and October beach photos (hopefully the weather clears up!)

Here is a thread 🧵 of our journey from Kyoto to Fukuoka, then across to Tsushima from top to bottom @chadkoh/1584799031863410688?s=46&t=6NSgArwftDcbqZJu7RxRUg

Tsushima is on the horizon, but we’ve nearly arrived at #ikijima

Hello from the beach!

Here is the same #ikijima beach by drone in February youtu.be/S_8BwFVOVnE #

This is Ohama, a nice family friendly beach on #ikijima. I am standing on a little peninsula. The ocean water in the fishing port on the left has a totally different colour than the white sand beach on the right.

Today we showed up at a friend’s house to surprise them… and they came out holding a baby! WOW! That’s a surprise!!

Sure glad we are not sailing from #ikijima today. Super windy with super rough seas 🤢

Sunset at Sakyobanaryujin Shrine ⛩️, one of my fav spots on #ikijima (it is SO windy that I removed the sound, so you are safe to watch the vid in full res)

To the left of the shrine out in the water is Sakyōbana, one of the Heavenly Pillars of Iki. This is where they fly the demon kites chadkohalyk.com/2020/11/11/island-of-gods-island-of-demons/

These are the Harahoge, a series of jizō statues that protect this bay. When the tide is up, it comes up to their bellies.
