3. Beautiful day and Kumamoto Castle was in fine form. After the earthquakes, they built a 6m tall walkway so people could view the damage and reconstruction from safety. 5 years later the main keep (notice the ✈️) will be open to the public at the end of April.

7. Up on the eastern slopes above #Kyoto, the Ōtani sobyō cemetery is lit up by “10,000” lanterns for #お盆 Obon in an event called 万灯会 Manto’e. We walked up in the humid weather to the family grave to pay our respects. A short thread of pics and vids of the views tonight.

19. Today was our last day on Iki. Our 1 year island study exchange has come to an end.💔 😭 Almost the entire school and neighbourhood turned out to see us off. I am going to miss this place! We now have a second hometown in Japan! 🥰 #ikijima #壱岐

23. Father in law passed away at 12:02. Rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. 75 years old. He went out the way he wanted. A gorgeous day. Safe travels 🪷📿🙏
