        1. Due to Japan's ban on incoming foreigners there is a shortage of Assistant Language Teachers. Last year's crop of ALTs rotated out last summer but were never replenished in Aug like normal. The students are not getting a chance to practice their English skills with natives. 1/4

        So, the school board rung up a bunch of native English speakers here on the island. I was recruited to spend the afternoon yesterday with the Grade 8s of Katsumoto Middle School. 2/4

    Anyways, I had the great fun of being grilled by about 40 students, a large portion of whom like: fishing 🎣 video games 🎮 watching YouTubers 📺 & manga/anime 🦸‍♀ Teaching language through a mask sucks! Worse is not having any native speakers to benefit from. 4/4
